Moors and Christians

This famous fiesta takes place in Calpe from Friday, 17th October until Wednesday, 22nd October.
It is one of the most lavish fiestas in Spain and takes place in different towns throughout the year. There are many parades with spectacular costumes and bands, and some even have horses, elephants or camels in the parade, plus floats.

The programme is as follows:

Friday, 17th. Bell ringing, brass band procession, and informal processions. Saturday, 18th. Moors and Christians parade from Calle Benissa, followed by fireworks on the Arenal beach. Sunday, 19th October. Battle on the beach. Childrens Moors and Christians parade from Calle Benissa. Tuesday, 21st. Second battle and “miracle” in Plaza Mayor Wednesday, 22nd October. Brass band processions. Solemn mass in Plaza Mayor, followed by fireworks. Solemn processions followed by fireworks on the beach. Dancing at midnight.
